Cellophane and non-stick paper in pizza size

Anti-slip paper and cellophane protect the pizza from contaminants, provide better load security, and are environmentally friendly. Let the history of pizza and advancements in packaging technology inspire you, and enjoy your pizza with a clear conscience.
Our packaging is not only good for food, but also contributes to sustainability. Anti-slip paper and cellophane are made from materials that meet the highest food safety standards while also being environmentally friendly. The anti-slip paper effectively prevents the pizza from sliding, making transport safer and more comfortable. It also offers an eco-friendly paper look that not only looks good but is also sustainable. Cellophane, also known as cellophane, is a natural product made from regenerated cellulose that is biodegradable and compostable. Under suitable conditions, it decomposes within a very short time. Cellophane provides an excellent barrier against moisture and oxygen, making it ideal for direct food contact. It is also heat-resistant and can be broken down in both home and industrial composting.
With our eco-friendly packaging solutions, you can ensure that your high-quality pizza remains free of harmful chemicals. At the same time, you’re helping to protect the environment, as both materials offer a safe and sustainable solution for direct food contact.
Pizza and the Challenges of Migration
However, there are also health concerns associated with pizza boxes. As previously noted, most pizza boxes are made of corrugated cardboard, which is produced from recycled paper. While this makes pizza packaging sustainable and inexpensive at first glance, it can lead to migration issues. This is because recycled paper can contain all sorts of substances, depending on what was previously packaged in it. In the recycling process, paper—including any foreign substances that may be adhering to it—is first turned into a wet pulp before being processed into “new” paper. Because a fresh pizza releases a fair amount of moisture and grease, contact with corrugated cardboard quickly causes migration of the sometimes hazardous chemicals into the pizza—since “normal” corrugated cardboard, on the other hand, has no coating but absorbs the moisture and fats from the warm pizza, which can create a sort of “bridge” between the chemicals in the paper and the pizza. Numerous studies have already shown that certain chemicals, such as bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS), may be present in the boxes, and these are definitely potentially harmful to health. In a study by Öko-Test, harmful substances such as bisphenol A (BPA) and bisphenol S (BPS) were even found in nearly all pizza boxes. These substances can be harmful to health and transfer to the pizza. BPA is linked to an increased risk of breast cancer, obesity, and behavioral issues in children. BPS, a substitute for BPA, exhibits similar harmful properties. Despite a ban on these substances in food packaging, which takes effect on January 20, 2025, this EU regulation does not apply to paper, meaning that these harmful substances may still be present in pizza boxes.
The risk of contaminant transfer is minimized
In principle, migration from the pizza box can be prevented by using either virgin fiber paper exclusively or a food-safe coating on the corrugated cardboard—though this would be expensive and not environmentally friendly. Lüning verpackt offers the solution with its special anti-slip paper and cellulose glass blanks, which are naturally approved for direct food contact and effectively prevent migration. Our specialty papers in the new pizza format fit perfectly into your pizza boxes and prevent the pizza from coming into direct contact with the cardboard. This minimizes the risk of contaminant transfer, and the pizza remains intact and delicious.
Our anti-slip paper and anti-slip cardboard are primarily used by food and chemical companies to secure loads on pallets, but they are food-safe and have a “soft-touch” feel, making this specialty paper particularly well-suited for use in pizza boxes. We’ve retained the attractive, eco-friendly look of paper, and the die-cut design also prevents the pizza from sliding around, making transport safer and more comfortable. This innovative solution offers an eco-friendly and safe way to continue enjoying pizza with a clear conscience in the future.
Cellophane with the Freshness Plus
In addition to our anti-slip paper, you can also use our transparent, garden-compostable cellophane sheets. Cellophane, also known as celluloid, is a natural product made from regenerated cellulose that is biodegradable and compostable. It is made from renewable raw materials such as wood and decomposes under suitable conditions within a few weeks to months. At the same time, Zellglas provides an excellent barrier against moisture and oxygen, making it ideal for direct food contact. It is also heat-resistant and can be broken down in both home and industrial composting. These properties make Zellglas not only an eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastic packaging, but also an attractive solution for perfectly delivering the full flavor of a fresh pizza to the customer at virtually no extra cost.
Affordable protection for your pizza: sustainability and safety combined
Both solutions cost just a few cents per individual cut, but by making this worthwhile investment and using anti-slip paper and cellophane cut-outs, you can ensure that your high-quality pizza remains free of harmful chemicals. At the same time, you can contribute to environmental protection with our eco-friendly specialty papers, as both of these materials offer a safe and sustainable solution for direct food contact and help reduce the environmental impact of plastic waste.
